The Grand is the centrepiece of the Warrandyte township, situated along the Yarra River about 30 minutes away from Melbourne’s CBD and at the doorstep of Victoria’s famous Yarra Valley wine region. Constructed in 1895, The Grand has experienced it’s fair share of trials, from devastating fires to torrential floods, yet has proudly withstood the test of time, and today provides a unique dining experience to visitors and locals alike.
The stories past of The Grand Warrandyte gave us the perfect base upon which to build a complete visual identity. We developed motifs based on the themes of pre-settlement, water (flood), fire (bush fires), past and present; much of the collateral also incorporate stories revolving around these themes as we wanted to add a meaningful element to the dining experience.
Like the rings of a tree ‘The Warrandyte’ logo design bears the marks of history. It has witnessed gold rushes, withstood floods and fires – the good times and the bad.
In 2013, we worked with the new owners of the Grand Warrandyte to breathe a breath of fresh air into a tired old pub. Their aim was to deliver a quality dining experience to locals and new-comers alike, and reinstate this grand old public house as the heart of the Warrandyte community.
